Being influenced by legends such as Willie Pep, Sugar Ray Robinson, Emille Griffith, Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, Dick Tiger, Harry Wiley, and Carlos Ortiz, Coach Ronnie Minardi established Minardi Boxing Club. These legends in the boxing world passed down experience and knowledge to Coach Minardi’s trainers and mentors Tony Fortunato, Willie “The Kid” Munoz, cousin of Carlos Ortiz, and Carlo, his cousin, inspiring him to share his passion, boxing IQ, and expertise in the craft of boxing with others.
Minardi Boxing Club isn’t a club that offers boot camp or fitness classes. It’s a club that teaches fighters and members that want to learn the old-school methods and techniques pro fighters use. Whether it’s one on one or as a group or team, members and fighters have his full attention. The main focus is to fulfill his purpose to produce champions, guide the youth in the right direction and teach others who want to learn the RIGHT WAY. This is a no-nonsense gym. Coach Minardi pays special attention to each fighter, creating plans specific to their abilities and goals. Down to nutrition, lifestyle, respect, and discipline, he is a trainer that focuses on a fighter’s well being in and out of the ring.”Don’t tell me you want to become champion if you’re not going to train, listen, respect, and live like one. Boxing is a lifestyle,” he says.
Coach Minardi isn’t just a trainer but also a mentor helping those he trains with life outside the ring, who takes what he does very seriously. He has a high success rate working with troubled teens, helping them overcome academic obstacles as well as behavioral and self esteem issues, setting them on the path to achieving success.
Leaving behind a legacy, putting his knowledge from his lineage into others, and producing results is what he finds most rewarding. “I wanna be one of the best trainers to come into this sport next to Ray Arcel, Harry Wiley, Eddie Futch, Jack Blackburn. Times have changed though. If I had fighters with the same loyalty and work ethic as these trainers I’d have multiple world champions as well. The ones that stay, make it. The ones that don’t won’t. No fighter or trainer makes it to the top one without the other. They do it together, they need, rely on, and support each other. Loyalty and trust. I believe in my knowledge of my craft and know that I can make anyone a champion. All I require is that one fighter who’s willing to go all the way and believe in themselves and myself. Before my time is done here I’m going to change and inspire as many lives as I can. And most of all, I want my son to be proud of me and say that’s my father.”
